In my work, I primarily focus on the beauty of natural landscapes, specifically deserts similar to the area surrounding my hometown, Green River, Utah. From an early age, I learned to appreciate these spaces through my grandmother, who would often take me with her to hike the desert surrounding Green River.

My work is inspired by artists such as Ansel Adams, Georgia O’Keeffe, Roman Loranc, Clyde Butcher, and Dawn Kish. My work is also inspired by the writings of Edward Abbey. I am inspired by these artists because of how they are able to show the beauty of the natural world around them through their work.

Like the photographers who inspired me, I create my photographs using black and white fil,m and I print my pictures in my darkroom. I feel that this method of working allows me to fully connect with my subject. By working at a slower pace I am able to think about the image I am making when the film is being exposed as well as when the final print is being made.

The purpose of my work is to present the majesty of desert landscapes to those who may not fully appreciate them. Some may view deserts as barren and lifeless, but I see deserts as filled with unique geological features as well as flora and fauna that can exist nowhere else. My work refutes the idea that deserts are best suited to extractive industries and destructive forms of recreation.
